Today I would like to introduce you to Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin, from Bobby’s Gin Company in the Netherlands.
In this gin, tradition meets modernity – Schiedham is considered the capital of Genever. Genever is considered the forerunner of gin. The name Genever is derived from the Dutch allesverbes or the French genièvre, which stand for the term juniper. Gin then made its triumphant march around the world.
In addition to the traditional botanicals from Europe such as juniper and rose hip, Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin has botanicals from Indonesia such as cloves and lemongrass, as well as cubeb pepper and orange peel…
The Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin has 42% vol., which brings out the taste of orange, clove and cinnamon. This gin combined with a classic Indian tonic, in my case the Thomas Henry Tonic Water (but also the Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water), garnished with an orange slice and a few cloves is a great gin for the dark season you can wrap yourself in a warm blanket or sit in front of the fireplace and treat yourself to a great drink.
A few words about the creation of Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin: Sebastiaan van Bokkel had the idea in 2013 based on the recipe of his great-grandfather, who lived in Indonesia and gained experience with spices there. The recipe was developed and refined together with the Jansen genever distillery. The grandfather also served as the namesake for the gin, because his nickname was Bobby and that’s how the name Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin.
